Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modern form of behavioral therapy that focuses on enhancing psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present with what you are experiencing, while at the same time acting in line with what truly matters to you.
In ACT, the primary aim is not to “get rid of” or reduce symptoms, but to develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. Struggling against negative thoughts or challenging emotions (such as anxiety, low mood, or shame) can take a great deal of energy and draw attention away from what you actually want in life. ACT helps you become less stuck in these struggles, without having to wait for everything to first become “better”.
Together, we explore patterns of avoidance, control, or self-criticism that limit you, and how you can create more space for what is present. This is done in an experiential and compassionate way, using practical exercises, metaphors, and reflection. ACT is not a passive therapy: it invites conscious choices and committed action.
An important component of ACT is working with values. We take time to clarify what is meaningful to you in life—such as in relationships, work, intimacy, or personal development—and explore how you can take steps in that direction, even in the presence of ongoing difficulties.
I apply ACT in a considered and tailored way, aligned with your individual situation. The therapy is practical, while also offering space for deeper exploration when this is helpful. We regularly evaluate together whether the treatment fits and supports what you want to work towards.
